Walking To School With Adam

At the start of the school year Adam was riding his bike to school, but he decided after a week or so that he likes walking home with his friends in the afternoon. So he started walking to school in the mornings. He asked if I wanted to walk with him and if we could take Lulu too. "Of course," I said. We talk about all kinds of things. He doesn't seem to be the least bit aware that it's not "cool" to walk with his dad. He's so dang sweet and I just love it.

When Derek was in middle school, he rode his bike most of the time because he said it was too far to walk. He really didn't even want to ride his bike - he wanted me to drive him, but I wouldn't and told him that he needed the exercise. When he did walk, he was "too cool" to walk with his dad.

High School Football

We went to the much hyped, ESPN televised, local high school football game Friday night

Our team, Norcross, was ranked number 6 in the country and we were playing the number 1 ranked team, Booker T Washington from Miami, FL

It was all fun and smiles before the game started...and then Booker T dropped the hammer on us

The final score was 55-0. Just because you were good last year doesn't mean you'll be good this year.

It was a beautiful night and it was fun to watch one of the teams play well - even if it wasn't our team. Adam and Derek only stayed with us long enough to see where we were sitting before heading off to run around with their friends the rest of the night. The stadium was just about empty and half the lights had been turned off by the time Adam finally came back. Good times. Good memories.

Weekend

With the dining room out of commission, Helen has been working on the kitchen table and now Derek regularly joins her to do his homework. Most of his classes don't seem to require much work, but he has to outline a chapter a night for his AP World History class. There are no breaks on the weekend - 3 nights 3 chapters.

Last Weekend

Helen tried out a new cinnamon and sausage bun recipe

We all agreed that they were yummy

Painting the dining room ceiling

I went to raise the basketball goal and it seemed like there was some water sloshing around inside the pole so I drilled a hole to drain it and a bunch of watery sludge came pouring out

Mmmm...Barbecue

I picked up barbecue on the way home from work Friday night. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork, Brunswick stew and a bunch of side items. We had so much that we ate on it all weekend. It was so good. What must it be like to live a non-food centered life?
