In traffic court with Derek yesterday just outside Savannah
Derek has a heavy foot. After riding with him sometime last year, I said "You know, neither your mother or I have ever had a ticket...". Derek got a "super speeder" ticket for doing 88 in a 70 on the way to pickup Madison in Savannah before heading to Sarasota over the holidays. Derek waffled back and forth on whether or not to go to traffic court, but decided to do it. He asked me to join him.
I knew it was "on the way" to Savannah, but not "just outside" Savannah. We drove 4+ hours each way yesterday. It worked out well in the end and I enjoyed spending the day with him. The judge was nice and the atmosphere was low key and cordial. Derek got his speed reduced to 84 so no points show on his record and, hopefully, our insurance rates won't go up. He had to pay $180 for the privilege.
Having never been to traffic court, I found the experience interesting. I especially liked when the judge lectured a good looking well dressed 17 year old on how irresponsible it is to speed when you're not even paying your own insurance. And don't get a "move over" violation. The judge was not happy about that one. It cost the driver $500 and 4 points for "reckless driving".

After court we ate lunch at Papa Bucks BBQ
Derek said he had gone there before with his friend Tyler on their way to St Simon's Island.

Back home in the evening
I was exhausted, but Derek drove back to Tech to work on the Wreck Racing car. Then he was going to drive with Madison to Alpharetta and back for his late night hockey game. And he had a test at 10 am the next day. Youth.
