Derek's Broken Leg (Part 3)

Derek getting ready to face his first day of school on crutches

I waited a little after school started to drive Derek to school in order to miss the crowd. Derek started to lose it and kept telling us that he was going to get a detention for being late. I'm sure he was just worried about everything. We assured him that the school would understand.

We went to the school office to make arrangements and they were very nice. They gave Derek an elevator key and had one of his friends come and help him to class. Derek seemed to enjoy the attention, although he said the attention got annoying as the day wore on. He was worn out from the crutches but said the school let him use a wheelchair and that really helped.

Derek's broken leg wasn't enough. Adam's poison ivy sore got infected and we had to take him to the doctor in the morning.

The doctor drew a circle around the area so we would know if the infection was spreading

Derek was very excited about the care package he got from the Johnson's

Helen checked Derek out of school in the early afternoon for his CT Scan. We were still hopeful he wouldn't need surgery, but the doctor called later and dashed our hopes. The surgery is scheduled for later this morning.
