Super Speeder

In traffic court with Derek yesterday just outside Savannah

Derek has a heavy foot. After riding with him sometime last year, I said "You know, neither your mother or I have ever had a ticket...". Derek got a "super speeder" ticket for doing 88 in a 70 on the way to pickup Madison in Savannah before heading to Sarasota over the holidays. Derek waffled back and forth on whether or not to go to traffic court, but decided to do it. He asked me to join him.

I knew it was "on the way" to Savannah, but not "just outside" Savannah. We drove 4+ hours each way yesterday. It worked out well in the end and I enjoyed spending the day with him. The judge was nice and the atmosphere was low key and cordial. Derek got his speed reduced to 84 so no points show on his record and, hopefully, our insurance rates won't go up. He had to pay $180 for the privilege.

Having never been to traffic court, I found the experience interesting. I especially liked when the judge lectured a good looking well dressed 17 year old on how irresponsible it is to speed when you're not even paying your own insurance. And don't get a "move over" violation. The judge was not happy about that one. It cost the driver $500 and 4 points for "reckless driving".

After court we ate lunch at Papa Bucks BBQ

Derek said he had gone there before with his friend Tyler on their way to St Simon's Island.

Back home in the evening

I was exhausted, but Derek drove back to Tech to work on the Wreck Racing car. Then he was going to drive with Madison to Alpharetta and back for his late night hockey game. And he had a test at 10 am the next day. Youth.

Hockey Memories

The roller hockey league the boys used to play in was having a donation day, which gave us a good reason to tidy the garage...and shed some tears.

Adam's Spring Hockey

Adam's final spring hockey game

Adam skipped the long winter hockey season to focus on his first year in high school, as well as running cross country and track. He missed hockey, though, and had fun playing in the shorter spring session.

Mother's Day Weekend

Adam had a late hockey game Friday night and then had to be at the school early Saturday for a Driver's Ed driving session

It was his first time driving on the road and he was nervous. Afterwards, he said he did fine and that they picked up some breakfast for coach and even drove on the freeway.

Derek had gone to the bank Friday to open his own checking and saving accounts and we went with him on Saturday to transfer his minor savings account to his new account.

When we got home from dropping Adam at driver's ed, we saw that a tire on Derek's car was flat. Derek had to change the tire and take his car to the shop to get it fixed. All this grown up stuff is a pain.

We picked up Derek's graduation yard sign Saturday afternoon

The weekend weather was beautiful with pleasant temperatures and low humidity. We went for a nice long hike to Jones Bridge Park on Saturday to watch all the people playing in and around the river. Adam went with us on a long walk to Simpsonwood Park on Sunday for some nice long canopied hikes.
