Adam's First Tennis Match
Saturday September 17, 2011
Adam had his first tennis match. Adam has been practicing with some boys for a year or so and they finally joined an official league this season where they play other teams.
The first match was at Piedmont Park. It was a beautiful day and there was a Fall Festival going on. There was music and lots of good smells from all the food everywhere.
The format is 2 lines of singles and 3 lines of doubles. Adam played in one of the doubles lines. We had to wait about half an hour for the previous matches to finish. The parents are not supposed to intervene so there were plenty of bad calls, scoring errors, etc.. At one point, Adam served 3 times in a row, instead of alternating with his partner like you're supposed to. Adam and his partner also kept switching sides from forehand to backhand when you're supposed to play the same side for the whole set. It was torture for me to watch.
The kids play a pro set of 8 games. Adam played well and the match lasted a loooooong time. It went back and forth before finally ending in tie breaker that the other team ended up winning. They all had fun and there were snacks afterwards.
It was dinner time so we hung around and got something to eat at the festival and listened to some of the live music. It was a nice day.
