Joe's Place in Hana I told Helen I was sure I could work out some sort of deal with Ed (not Joe?), the proprietor, if she was interested in some sort spa\salon treatment, but she declined. Album for these photos All photo albums |
Waiting out one of the spontaneous Hana downpours that started while we were loading the car |
There was a nice hotel across from Joe's with access to a black sand beach |
Lots of neat things on the beach |
The sound of the water being absorbed by the beach |
Back to Joe's |
Waianapanapa State Park |
Banana bread break |
We lost Adam for a little while. He had gone into one of the caves and couldn't hear us calling for him. |
When we were at Hana Farms the night before they told us that the fresh banana bread is usually delivered about 9:30...and it was about 9:30...and we were ready |
Kind of sneaky to make so many different kinds of banana bread so you have to buy them all. They were all good, but the warm chocolate chip banana bread was roll your eyes back in your head good. |
We bought many bunches of these little bananas during our trip. They were so flavorful. We were spoiled by the availability of all the great fresh food. |
Nahiku Marketplace |
Coconut Glen's |
Drove down a side road to see the little Hana airport |
The Hana Cultural Center was closed, but there were some exhibits to see outside |
The Travaasa Hotel is the place to stay in Hana |
The Hana Coast Gallery on the hotel grounds |
We really enjoyed looking at all the beautiful local art |
Thai Food by Pranee next door to the cute little green schoolhouse |
First time trying and loving the local Aloha fruit drinks |
Derek's not a fan of any place without red meat, but he ordered the fried opaka and it was really good. We loved this place. |
Hasegawa General Store |
The store overlooks some of the Travaasa Hotel bungalows |
We saw a couple horses in a pasture next to the store |
She was shy |
Who doesn't love an old fashioned general store? |
Adam picked some apples for the horses |
First time seeing a F'real machine. We saw some locals making milkshakes and thought we would give it a try. Derek's friends back home gave him a hard time because he didn't know we have Freal and Shave Ice back home. |
Koki Beach |
Adam is ready to hit the waves...as soon as he finishes his milkshake |
Hamoa Beach |
Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools) in Haleakala National Park |
The pools were closed to swimming because of recent rains |
Banana bread break |
The backside of Haleakala tour |
The roads were narrow with many one lane bridges and the condition of the roads worsened, but it never really felt unsafe |
Pretty church, pretty light |
We thought this part of the road was beautiful with rolling cow filled hills and expansive views of the ocean |
Feels like Texas Hill Country |
A number of canyons along the way - looking like they've seen a flash flood or two |
Adam was feeling queezy and needed to move to the front seat |
We thought we had an outside chance of making it to the top of Haleakala for sunset. We started up, but it started getting really foggy so we headed back down in time to make our dinner reservation. |
Halimaile General Store |
Kalua Pork Sliders and Baby Back Ribs were as good as they look |
Pineapple Upside Down Cake |
Chocolate Bomb We really enjoyed everything. This place is always mentioned as one of the best Maui restaurants for a reason. |
