Derek's Birthday

Derek turned 14 yesterday

Helen and the kids had Good Friday off of school. With the short week, the nice weather, and Derek's birthday - everybody had a little pep in their step all week.

Derek brought his simple machine project home from school

We never got a picture of the finished project because, as usual, Derek didn't really keep us informed and took the project to school without us even knowing. It's nice that he's independent, but sometimes he's a little too independent.

Derek's feet had grown since his broken ankle and he was in need of some new skates. I found some nice used skates that he liked at Play It Again Sports.

With Friday off, Adam had a bonus sleepover with his friend Dylan

They came down from the man cave just long enough to make some chocolate covered pretzel snacks

On Friday, Derek invited his friend Blake to a birthday outing. Helen dropped Dylan off at his house on the way.

Andretti

Derek just wanted to be dropped off with Blake and then picked up later. He said it was okay if Adam played a few games and then left with Helen.

Derek and Blake still aren't old enough to drive the big cars, but they talked a lot about heading to Andretti as soon as they get their driver's license so they can finally drive the real cars.

Adam is always climing on something

Adam and Helen went to Harry's\Whole Foods to pickup some things and have lunch

Blake gave Derek a card that says "don't touch my nuts" when you pull the squirrel

On Friday night Derek and Adam had a hockey game. It was Adam's first game playing up on the 14U team with Derek. He got pushed around a lot and said it was much harder than 12U.

Adam had a flag football game Saturday at noon

Adam left his football game early for his hockey game at 1. I made arrangements for Derek and another dad to coach the team because I had a tennis match. I finished my match and got to the game a little after it started, but I told Derek and coach Dan that I didn't want to coach. I was tired of yelling and directing. I just wanted to watch and praise the kids. It was nice.

Some little 8U kids had a game after ours

I love to see little girls out there skating with the boys

Derek wanted to go to Yogurtland after the game

Trent and Evan came along to celebrate Derek's birthday

In the evening Derek chose to have hibachi at Aomii for his birthday dinner

I rode in the back and let the birthday boy ride in the front

So big

So old and tired

Derek wanted a wacky cake with coconut frosting
