Derek is up for Technology Student of the Year in Gwinnett County. He's all dressed up and ready to head to the other side of the county to have his picture taken yesterday morning.

Several hours later having the van towed to the Honda dealership
Normally Derek only drives the van a few miles to school and back. On the one day he heads across town..."Dad, the van broke down and I'm on the side of the road".

Helen and I were having one of our future scenario\planning discussions just one day before this when I said, "the van doesn't owe us anything - it's been great".

Many hours later Derek getting home with a new Honda Fit
The van's transmission was blown so we had to let her go. It's our fault for not maintaining her properly. She probably could have gone on several more years. I had worked out the specifics of the deal for the new car over many hours at home and just needed to go in and finalize everything. Derek offered to go along.
