Disney Christmas: Day 4 of 8

Adam enjoys the view from his bed as we approach Nassau Monday morning

Adam managed to find some soft squishy parts on Mommy

Atlantis Resort

We opted for the formal breakfast in Royal Palace rather than the buffet in Cabanas

Helen takes a call from Adam. They give you a couple of complimentary wave phones and we tried to get another so both boys could have one, but they were all out. Derek started off with one of the phones, but wound up not needing it - when he was gone he stayed gone. Adam, on the other hand, loved the phone. He would leave us for short periods, phone in hand, and then he would call when he was ready to join back up. It was very cute.

The crowds leaving the ship

There was always something going on in the lobby. This time it was a princess photo op.

We had lunch in Cabanas before our shore excursion

The meeting place for our shore excursion was in one of the adult lounges

Half of our group got on the bus that was waiting. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes for another bus - without much communication from the local guide. There was a definite difference in the Disney level of service and the local Nassau level of service.

Our guide seemed to enjoy taking us through bad areas of town. He asked me what I thought of Nassau and when I said that I thought it was nice - he seemed miffed - almost like he wanted the rich tourists to feel guility for how the rest of the world lives. He drove by the crappy looking run down hospital and proudly pointed out that socialized medicine was working so well that they were expanding the hospital.

We went on the Adastra Gardens and City tour

We thought the gardens were nice and wished they had really let us have the 90 minutes they adverstised instead of hustling us onto the bus after about 40 minutes

The big attraction is supposed to be the world famous marching flamingos. We were eager to see birds marching in perfect synchronization, but in reality the handler just yells some commands and blows a whistle and herds the birds around the ring. The birds were still pretty to watch.

They had people volunteer to pose like flamingos and then the handler would have the birds surround the kids and bump them

The over priced tour included a free soft drink - woo hoo! Adam tries out a local Bahamas fruit punch.

The tour was supposed to include visiting a local fort but the fort had just closed as we drove up (are you kidding me?). The driver dropped us off at the top of the Queens Staircase and picked us up at the bottom. This person seemed to have a similar experience.

After our Adastra tour we took a shady looking rundown taxi van to the Atlantis Resort. When we actually made it to Atlantis without getting robbed I was pleasantly surprised.

The kids thought it was neat going into an actual casino. We bought them each a $1 chip to keep.

We had hoped to see more of the resort, but you have to buy an expensive admission ticket to get into the towers with the beautiful aquariums. We looked around some and then took a taxi back to the port.

There was some princess gathering finishing up when we got back on the ship. The coodinator was handing out bells and the boys got in line for the bells even though they hadn't really been there for the princess gathering.

Adam joined us in the evening for the Villains Tonight show

Dinner was at the Royal Palace. The kids chose to skip the dinner.
