School's Out

Adam wanted to walk with me on his last day of elementary school

Derek is always charging forward and he was more than ready to leave elementary school. We weren't ready, but it helped us to see that Derek was so ready. Adam, on the other hand, said he's "sad and kind of scared" about leaving his elementary school. He's such a sweet and gentle soul. Life is rushing him along much faster than he would prefer.

On the last day of school, I walked to the bus stop to see all the kids. Adam headed off on his bike like he does every day and the bus left with the other kids. I was still talking with some of the parents when Adam appeared and started asking me a question. He was talking so softly and his little chin was quivering. I could see he was upset and I pulled him over to the side and asked if he was ok. He said he had started riding away and then got sad about his last day. He wanted to know if I would walk to school with him. I said, "of course" and gave him a hug. We walked back to the house, put up his bike, and had a nice last walk to elementary school.

On the way back I crossed paths with Derek who was on his way to school. Derek's been walking, but Blake wanted him to ride his bike so they could race home one last time before heading to high school next year.

Helen finally able to relax a little even though she still had a couple more teacher work days. She had to be at her school's graduation the next day at 6 am for the ceremony at 8. Crazy.
