Arizona (Day 1 of 6): Atlanta - Phoenix - Tucson

5:50 am train to the airport Saturday morning

Photo album for this day

All photo albums

It's surprising how crowded that first train of the morning is. Mostly hardworking people coming home from the night shift or headed to work before daybreak.

And we're off

Taking the shuttle to pick up our rental car. Where's all the grass?

Half off on all upgrades

Maybe this one?

Nope...this one

Lunch at the Fry Bread House

It all looks really good

We were stuffed. Adam especially liked his red sauce chili and fry bread.

Driving cross town to Papago Park

Desert Botanical Garden

What a beautiful place and a great way to get acquainted with the area

There was one downside of our visit to the Desert Botanical Garden...Derek dropped his phone

Taking the Apache Trail into the Superstition Mountains on our way to Tucson

Alpenglow at sunset

Canyon Lake

It was dark by the time we wound our way back out of the mountains and headed for Tucson. The early sunset is one of the downsides of traveling in the winter. We still had a 2.5 hour drive ahead of us and I wish we could have had some daylight to see the scenery.
