We walked down to the viewing area to see the sunrise, but it was cloudy. I guess there was a reason we didn't hear the drum. They told us the night before that the inn staff will walk around softly beating a drum if the sunrise is pretty.

We drove about an hour north to the very cool Mountain Crossings store near Blairsville

The Appalachian Trail passes through the store grounds. There are all kinds of worn out hiking boots up in the surrounding trees.

Blood Mountain is nearby

Adam was surprised at just how many mountains and "gaps" there are. Just a couple weeks earlier we were travelling along the ocean coast and then the Okefenokee Swamp. It's pretty incredible that it all exists in the same state.

Will spent almost an hour educating us about all the hiking gear

We drove a little north to Blairsville. Helen had picked out Nani's as a nice place to eat. Unfortunately, there was a sign saying they had some family issues and that they would be closed for a couple days.

So we ate at the Mexican restaurant next door

We stayed at the Seasons Inn in Blairsville for the night
