On Sunday we went to a Stanford In Your Area information session

The session didn't reveal anything special, but Derek enjoyed hearing it all in person. He really likes that Stanford has such a broad range of top notch opportunities and that they encourage exploration because he's not exactly sure what he wants to do.

Trying to make it through
Derek's struggling with the pressures that come along with all his opportunities. He can do some things...just don't tell him he has to or dictate the timing. Hmmm...I wonder where he gets that? He's really enjoying the freedom and social aspects of growing up, but he's not liking the being stretched so thin part.
He's hoping to get his college application stuff done by Nov 1 so he can relax a little and then attempt to focus on all the high school work he's delaying and really not much interested in any longer. Senioritis is setting in strong and he's struggling with wanting to enjoy the last vestiges of childhood with his friends...without compromising his future options.
