Liliuokalani Park and Gardens

There was a charity dog walk going on around the park. We had fun looking at all the different dogs and petting some of them.

We talked to this girl and her dad about the fish they caught

Suisan Fish Market

Hilo Farmer's Market

What a great experience. There were so many neat things to look at and try.

Naha Stone

Rainbow Falls

Pe'epe'e Falls and Boiling Pots

This place is a little up river from Rainbow Falls. As one article said, "probably not recommended by my physician or attorney" but very beautiful with an off the beaten path feel.

I guess we're going in

Driving back into Hilo

Pacific Tsunami Museum

A well done little museum you can do in about an hour

A 1946 tsunami devastated the area

Honu's have joined moose's on Helen's favorite animals list

Mauna Kea Snow

Adam's Peachtree Jr Road Race tee shirt attracted a family from Atlanta to talk with us while we enjoyed our treats

We drove about an hour to the Mauna Kea Visitor Center

Setting up for the stargazing program

The visitor center was small and it was uncomfortably crowded so we looked around a little before heading back to Hilo. The stargazing might be a fun activity if the place was bigger and there were more guides and less tourists.

It was Helen's birthday and she chose Cafe Pesto for dinner

I don't know if it was the elevation at Mauna Kea, the undulating drive back to Hilo, or what...but I was very nauseous. I tried to visit some and not ruin Helen's birthday dinner, but I spent most of the time walking around outside trying to right myself.

The rest of the family said the food was very good
