Hawaii (Day 16 of 19): Big Island - Kona

We arrived at our condo in Kona very late and tired after a drive from Volcanoes National Park the previous night

We weren't too impressed by the condo the night before but felt a little better about it in the light of day

We kept comparing this condo to our condo in Maui and it just wasn't holding up. The development felt more like an apartment complex back home. The kitchen table was covered with a bunch of useless formal place settings. The living room furniture was covered with a bunch of useless decorative pillows. Each bed had big bulky comforters, way too many decorative pillows, and an obnoxiously thick memory foam mattress pad that the boys insisted on removing. The place wasn't that big and we had to find places to put all that junk to get it out of our way. It made us really appreciate the comfortable design simplicity of our Maui condo.

We also weren't happy about the security. Just a little push button lock on the handle of a pretty flimsy door. There was no a\c so we had to keep the windows open, but the locks on many of the screens were broken. We really liked the security of the louvered windows from the condo in Maui.

At least the condo was in the back of the development and it was quiet with a nice garden lanai overlooking a pretty yard

We were glad to find plenty of snorkeling equipment at both condo's

Exploring the condo development

We kept seeing these two cute birds during our stay

The water was so clear and you could see fish like these yellow ones swimming around. If it wasn't so rocky and rough it would great for snorkeling.

It seems like everything in Hawaii is built on sacred grounds

We had fun watching the fish and turtles frolic in the swells

Hot! Hot! Hot!

L & L Hawaiian BBQ for lunch

Picking up some groceries

Helen and I went driving around Kona. The boys stayed home.

We drove by "Magic Sands" beach and saw people playing in the big waves so we quickly went back to the condo to get Adam

Just in time to see the sun go down

Adam was very happy we came and got him. The waves were pretty big and he got crunched a few times, but had a lot of fun.
