Hawaii (Day 17 of 19): Big Island - Kona, Waikoloa Resort Area

Kahaluu Beach

Helen and I got up early to go snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach near our condo. The boys passed, but told us to let them know if it was any different than any of the snorkeling we had already done.

Album for these photos

The snorkeling was pretty good. It was a big bay and it was pretty shallow so it felt safe, but there wasn't a lot of structural diversity

Right where we left him

"Magic Sands" Beach

Adam was very excited to be back at "his" beach

Turtle

The turtles kept swimming near Adam

Cute Honu

Adam made a friend. Little guys have to stick together.

The kids would race from the shore into the breaking waves and do some really acrobatic tricks

Da Poke Shack

Yummy

Kailua-Kona

Swim start for the Ironman World Championship triathlon

Hawaii Natural Energy Lab

Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm

Kekaha Kai State Park

Mesmerized by the water color

I asked these spear-fishermen if they caught anything

Wow!

Not a lot of big waves but so pretty

Kings Shops

Anchialine Ponds

This bird swooped down and grabbed some lunch

The water was so clear

Coral, coral, everywhere

Fishpond entry to A-Bay

We weren't exactly sure what we were going to do in Waikoloa or where to park etc, but this turned out to be a fun little adventure

Adam couldn't stand it anymore and had to go swimming

Kapu

Lava Lava Beach Club

Derek was more than ready to eat

Somehow the camera dial must have gotten turned to "vivid". It actually looks pretty good.

We saw lots of wild cats in Hawaii. Here they had a whole elaborate setup for wild cats.

Didn't expect to see a big ray in the fishpond

Hilton Waikoloa Village

Derek had been fed and had enough activity. He was done and gave us a hard time when I told him we wanted to see the Hilton. "Why do you guys always want to look at hotels?  They all look the same." I told him that I heard this one was pretty neat, but he was not swayed.

It didn't take long for everyone to be impressed (even Derek). It was like Disney World. I'm sure it's great to stay here, but if we stayed we would never want to leave and explore the island.

From above the waterfall you could see lots of turtles swimming around

Sharks!

Dolphins

Good place to relax and watch the dolphins

Renting kayaks for the boys

This guy was blowing a conch shell horn and running all over the property lighting the tiki torches...and the property is huge...pretty impressive

Adam got so excited about the nice pool and took off to play. It took us a while to find him.

The grass was so squishy

Driving back to Kona through the lava fields at sunset
