Kelley waking up Adam

Jason and Laine used a fishing guide a few years back on the Kenai. They ran into the same guy, Paul, a couple years ago and couldn't believe it. Then this year, we ran into him again at the Russian River.

Jason checks out the bear spray

We started off trying to walk along the river bank towards the falls, but it was slow going and when some fisherman said they had to scramble up the steep hillside to avoid a mama bear we decided to take the trail to the falls

Back to the vehicles to drive to the falls trail head

That water is cold

The Red Salmon weren't "in" yet but there were some early arrivals. Some were taking a shot at the falls and others were resting before mustering the energy.

Kenai Princess Lodge for lunch

Love the signature green Kenai River

We're not big calamari fans so this was the first time the kids tasted it. They thought it was ok.

Salmon sliders

Beer battered halibut

Derek with the burger of course

We drove a couple hours west, stopping in Soldotna to pick up some supplies, and then continuing on to Nikiski where the company Kelley works for has a big campground that we had all to ourselves

Paul stopped by the Moose Is Loose bakery before meeting us at the campground

The kids absolutely loved this place. It was a great big playground and they had their aunts and uncles to play with.

It was almost midnight and we were still playing badminton

Beautiful sunset colors
