Saying bye bye to Camp Kelley All photos for this day All photo albums |
Actually, we're leaving |
Kenai Visitor Center |
Aunt Kelley bought Adam some books |
We tell the kids that we are willing to buy them things to remember the trip. We're thinking something related to the trip, but Derek never wants any of that. He wants things like this silly hat. |
Derek and Aunt Laine with their hats |
We walked down to the beach where the Kenai River empties into Cook Inlet. We're all bundled up and there's a guy in the background in the water in his swim suit. |
The Red Salmon were coming in and there were crowds of people dip netting |
Russian Orthodox Church With Russia being so close there were a lot of Russians that came to Alaska and there's a significant Russian impact on the area |
Helen stopped by this cute little coffee house for a coffee |
We decided it was a good time to stop for lunch at the Burger Bus |
We got there just in time - right before a bus load of baseball players from Nashville showed up |
The food was very good. Great burgers and halibut sandwiches. |
We couldn't wait to stop by the Moose Is Loose bakery in Soldotna |
Two of Helen's favorite things - baking and moose |
It was all good, but we really liked the cinnamon rolls, carrot cake cupcakes, and most of all the cream filled maple glazed donuts |
The beautiful purple lupine and white cow parsnip covering the roadsides |
We stopped at a pullout along the way and followed this path |
That's a big drop |
Chocolate Lilly |
Kachemak Bay overlook |
Homer Spit, on the left, jutting into the bay |
Homer |
We checked into our campground and then went to explore the Spit |
Ain't it the truth |
Homer is all about the halibut |
This place on the strip turned out to be a pleasant surprise |
The halibut was really good |
Our waitress offered to take our picture |
Back to the campground for some visiting before bed |
