Appalachian Mountains - Dollywood (Day 6 of 6)

Heading to breakfast at the Quality Inn in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Short drive north to Pigeon Forge and Dollywood

I just ate breakfast, but I made a mental note to return

Adam wanted to hit the big coaster right away

We really liked Dollywood. It was clean and everything looked well maintained. The food and the staff were good and the other guests were, for the most part, reasonably normal.

And I want some of these too

I said "that looks like fun"

Helen and Adam got soaked. I got a little wet.

I said I would be back

I'm not really hungry, but that looks good too

Adam knew where the camera was and pulled off his best stoic pose

Adam took us on several coasters in a row to start the day. After that we were done and were perfectly happy to wait like old people while he kept on riding.

Oh, and I wanted some of those other cinnamon rolls too

We talked about leaving at a reasonable hour and making the 3 hour drive back home, but decided to stay late and get a hotel nearby. Unfortunately, everything was booked. When we went back to the Quality Inn where we stayed the night before, the clerk said, "Well it is Saturday night in Gatlinburg after all. You're not going to find anything." We had no idea. And we weren't sure why we were able to find a room Friday night, but not Saturday. It wasn't good news, but at least "Well it is Saturday night in Gatlinburg after all" is now part of our travel lore and a fun line for us to throw around.

We tried looking for hotel rooms in Cherokee and Franklin North Carolina before finally resigning ourselves to the 3 hour drive home. We finally got home about 3 am.
