We decided to explore the trail near the campground while Adam was still sleeping

Lunch in Maggie Valley, NC

Onward towards a place called Max Patch?

We got off on what we thought was the closest I-40 highway exit and quickly encountered a gravel road so we headed back south to the SR209 exit only to find that it turned to a gravel road also

We drove for several long miles not sure if we were going the right way and eventually ran into some logging trucks. We stopped and asked about Max Patch and they said to continue on another few miles.

We finally found the trailhead and were surprised and relieved to see so many other cars

What a beautiful place

We ran into this group of llamas
