Prepping for our Rhododendron Trail Hike

You have to pull up

Parking at Massie Gap lot in the park

The Ponies

A baby pony

These two were so friendly. They came right up to us and rubbed up against our bodies.

We extended the hike to the Wilburn Ridge Trail. It was long and hot, but we were rewarded when we came across the same group of ponies. They were relaxing and buffering the baby pony while it napped.

To the visitor center for some relaxation and air conditioning

More ice cream

There's a turtle in this enclosure but we never found him

Headed north towards Roanoke as we continue following the 10 Stunning Viewpoints guide

Learning about the "Wilderness Road" that pioneers took as they headed west to settle Tennessee and Kentucky

McAfee Knob Trailhead

Dragon's Tooth trailhead

We decided to hike a couple miles, but not all the way to Dragon's Tooth

We had passed The Homeplace restaurant on our way to McAfee Knob and remembered that one of the hiking articles recommended it

It really hit the spot after hiking all day

The Homeplace is on the Virgina Tech Hokie Bucket List
