FogCatcher Inn It would have been so nice to just hang out at the FogCatcher Inn, but we had a 10:30 reserved tour time at the Hearst Castle.
Real food and dishes at breakfast were a step up from Hampton Inn
The hotel is across the street from Moonstone Beach. Helen has been dropping hints that she wants to come back to this area for a future anniversary.
The Hearst Castle in San Simeon is just a short beautiful drive north of Cambria
The Hearst Castle sits high in the hills and you have to take a shuttle from the visitor center
Winding up the hills on the shuttle bus
Making our way to the Grand Rooms Tour
Our guide was really good
The inside of the house was nice, but a little stuffy in an antique sort of way
The grounds were beautiful
Back down to the visitor center
Beach across the street from the Hearst Castle
Hearst Castle high on the hill
Coastal Discovery Center had limited hours and was closed when we were there
Beautiful area just south of Point Piedras Blancas Light Station
At first we didn't even see the seals. Once we started walking around we realized they were all over the beach.
The Elephant Seal rookery area would have been neat but was way more crowded and not nearly as pretty as the area we just came from
Light Station
Ragged Point Inn
Big Sur
Sometimes there was construction and a stop light to control one way traffic along the Pacific Coast Highway
Derek just waking up from a nap
Bixby Creek Bridge
McWay Falls
The Backstory
It must have been quite a view from the house that overlooked the falls
Nepenthe Restaurant
Adam setting up his bed in our room at the Wayfarer Inn, in Carmel. He and Derek were excited there was a pullout bed so they could each have their own bed for a change. In planning the trip I tried to allow for a leisurely drive up the coast without rushing, but there's so many pretty things to see. A hundred miles along the coast can easily take a whole day.
