If the trees could talk they would have lots of stories to tell

Adam had fun trying to find all the different animals in the wall murals

Driving the Generals Highway

Like the Tioga Pass Road in Yosemite, this section of the Generals Highway is closed in the winter. Both roads are in less traveled sections of their respective parks, but we thought they were the most beautiful sections of the respective parks. In Yosemite you see the slate gray granite all over. In Kings Canyon the rocks are contrasting colors with dark, almost black, rocks mixing with light sand colored rocks.

Grizzly Falls

The rocky cliffs were sharp and rugged looking, but they were covered with pretty things like these cactus flowers. It was really beautiful.

On our way back to the John Muir Lodge, the road was blocked by what looked to be about 50 hunting dogs. They were really moving and we couldn't get around them. When we finally got back to the lodge, the clerk said that it's not an uncommon occurrence. The dog owner lets them loose for long periods to train them to hunt on their own. They all have radio collars, but they're not supposed to be in the park and the owner will get fined if the park service catches them.
