Old Town San Diego

It was near our hotel and we drove through it a few times. It looked like it would be fun, but we never actually got out and checked it out.

Headed into Balboa Park

San Diego Zoo

We wish we could have gone to the Safari Park associated with zoo. We heard a lot of good things about it, but we couldn't do it all.

Pedicure Please

We went on the bus tour to get "the lay of the land". The zoo is really big.

We wanted to take him home

This peacock kept trying, but it just wasn't working

The grounds were really beautiful. It was a zoo and a botanical garden.

Exhibit about the tar pits we had seen in LA

Tina, eat the food!

Meerkats are so cute

How cute are they?

Adam got stung by a bee, but recovered with a little ice

Loved the girls

Bakka and Miley are besties

Such long lashes

The panda exhibit was really crowded most of the day, but wide open right before closing

I decided to drive about a half an hour south to check out Tijuana

I thought it said Texaco

We were more than a little apprehensive, but decided to see what it was like in Tijuana

As soon as we got across we realized we made a mistake

It was starting to get dark and the line to get back into the US was really long. I asked a store owner if "we" had to stand in line too. He laughed and said everyone has to stand in line. No line to get into Mexico. Big line to get out.

We saw plenty of American looking people, but they were all in line to leave. I guess they come for the day and then get out before dark. We decided to press on and head towards Revolution Boulevard. We walked though a touristy square filled with closed shops and then crossed a bridge where we passed a young policeman. I asked him how far it was to Revolution Boulevard and then asked him if it was safe. He assured us that it wasn't much further and that it was safe. We walked another hundred yards or so and then decided we had enough. The place was so dirty and poor. We felt very out of place and felt like people were looking at us like we were crazy.

We made it back to the border and got in line. A man approached and offered to take us across in a shuttle to avoid the line. I might have done it, but Helen was having none of that. It took about 45 minutes to get back into the US and we were so happy.

It was late and options were limited so it was In-N-Out again
