Northwest 2015 (Day 10 of 22): North Cascades National Park - Okanagan British Columbia

Our hotel, the Winthrop Inn, in Winthrop, Washington just outside North Cascades National Park

Complimentary scones and coffee

It's a cute inn

Winthrop National Fish Hatchery

There weren't any cars in the parking lot and we weren't sure what to expect

This older guy met us and offered to give us a tour

The guide was super nice

He explained how he and his wife were volunteers and lived in their trailer on site. They had been wintering in Arizona and applied online for the volunteer positions. I talked to him a long time about life and the logistics of selling it all and doing what they are doing.

Dick and Janet's trailer in the background

There's a cute older couple, Dick and Janet, who live on our street. Since we don't know the real names of the volunteer couple at the fish hatchery, we just refer to them (and any other cute older couple that just piddles around like we want to) as Dick and Janet

Winthrop is a very cute little town

The Duck Brand Hotel looked inviting for lunch

We hadn't had a real meal for a couple days. It seems that some days we eat well and other days we never manage to fit a decent meal in. On those days we survive on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Pringles, baked goods, and ice cream.

We walked across the street to check out a bakery while we waited on our food

The Rocking Horse Bakery was so cute

We were very happy with our meal at the Duck Brand Hotel

The apple rhubarb pie was delicious

Adam wanted to go see the dog in front of the bakery

We got some yummy baked goods for the road

North Cascades Smoke Jumper Base

We were quickly assigned a young smoke jumper to give us a tour

We really enjoyed the whole experience. Our guide did a great job.

Adam got a tee shirt

Long drive ahead

We enjoyed our time in Winthrop, but we still had a 10 hour drive to our condo outside of Banff and we needed to get on the road

Lots of produce, especially huge apple tree orchards covered in netting like this

Derek was a big help with driving

It would have been a lot harder doing all the driving we had to do without Derek. He really started to enjoy it, especially when we got to the fun rolling hills. He started to feel very confident - a little too confident according to Helen.

It felt warm, but we had no idea the temperature was so high without the humidity we're used to in Georgia

Osoyoos Visitor Center

There were produce stands everywhere

We really liked Tickleberry's where we got some ice cream and fudge

What's with this metric stuff? It makes so much sense that it takes a little getting used to

Okanagan Lake Country is very beautiful

The kids couldn't wait to get some poutine so we stopped at an A&W

We decided to make an unplanned stop in Revelstoke for the night

We had a condo booked outside of Banff that we were trying to get to, but we had been on the road a long time and still had hours to go. I also didn't want to miss Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks.
