Sunwapta Falls Lodge

The boys had an adjoining suite and were very happy about not having to share a bed with each other

The lodge is a convenient stop along the Icefields Parkway, especially for tour buses

There's a nice quiet dining room reserved for hotel guests

We really enjoyed our meals here and enjoyed talking with our waiters

Don't want to hit one of these

Icefields Parkway is pretty awesome

Columbia Icefield

Visitor Center

This place was uncomfortably crowded. It's kind of disappointing to find yourself in such a situation in what feels like a remote location, but I guess it's understandable given that the visitor center is the main stopping point on the parkway and all the tour buses are there. We did a quick walkthrough and got the heck out of there before the anxiety level, for those of us who are prone to such things, became too overwhelming.

We felt sorry for some of the older people that could barely get around. They looked pretty miserable, but they had no choice but to endure the situation because they were stuck within the limitations of the organized tours. We talked about how we were so thankful to be able to take these trips as a family while we're still reasonably young and healthy.

Random Indian guy with cute animals

I'll take a posed picture if someone else (quickly) coordinates it, but in general I don't like asking other people to do things for my sake. I don't like being obligated so I don't want to chance that I might obligate someone else. I also don't want to endure the hassle\coordination\communication that might be required. And this is just a picture.

So, while it might have been nice to have some family members in this picture, I ended up with this random Indian guy instead.

Waterfowl Lakes

We missed Peyto Lake the day before because the signage just listed Bow Summit. We discovered that you have to take the road to Bow Summit to get to Peyto Lake.

The hike to Peyto Lake had some unexpected elevation gain

Helen was disappointed, but came to accept that, while Derek is pretty sedentary and doesn't look like he would be in better shape than her, he is.

Peyto Lake is beautiful, but it was also crowded when we went. We talked about going to see it again some other time with less people around, but never made it.

Sunshine Village

In the summer, the village is mainly a connection point to shuttles for accessing higher elevation hikes

This guy was under an overpass. He doesn't look quite right.

Bow Valley Parkway

Johnston Canyon Trail

Johnston Canyon is really beautiful

After some back and forth we decided to have dinner at the Johnston Canyon Resort restaurant

Overall, a nice experience

Soft serve ice cream from the café next door

Moraine Lake

3 pictures of the same scene. It's hard (at least for me) to capture the real life colors with a camera.

We had a good time watching this porcupine

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Lake Louise...so beautiful

Beautiful hotel on a beautiful lake surrounded by beautiful mountains. It doesn't get much nicer.
